Sub-Ohm vs MTL Vaping: Which One Actually Saves You Money in Pakistan?

Last week a customer in Gulberg asked me a question I get maybe 47 times a month.

"Bhai, which one hits better — sub-ohm or MTL?"

Short answer? Depends on your lungs, your wallet, and honestly — what you're trying to get out of vaping in the first place. Long answer is what the rest of this post is for.

Look, I've been running IVG Pakistan for a while now. I've seen guys walk in wanting a massive cloud machine and walk out with a tiny pod. And the reverse. So let me actually break this down properly — no fluff, no jargon dump.

What Sub-Ohm and MTL Actually Mean (Without the Nerd Stuff)

MTL means Mouth-To-Lung. You pull the vapour into your mouth first, hold it, then inhale. Like a cigarette. That's the whole thing.

Sub-ohm — sometimes called DTL or Direct-To-Lung — is the opposite. You pull straight into your lungs. Big airflow. Big clouds. Feels more like breathing warm steam than smoking.

The name "sub-ohm" comes from the coil resistance being under 1.0 ohm. Which basically means the coil fires hotter, uses more power, and vaporises more liquid per puff. That's the technical bit. You don't need to remember it.

Here's the thing most guides skip — the nicotine you use is completely different for each style.

MTL setups use nic salts. High mg. 20mg, 35mg, sometimes 50mg. Small puffs, big nicotine hit, feels close to a cigarette. Our IVG Intense Salts at 35mg and 55mg in 30ml bottles (Rs.2,999) were literally made for this.

Sub-ohm setups use freebase e-liquid. Low mg. 3mg or 6mg usually. Because you're inhaling so much vapour, high nicotine would knock you out. Or make you cough your soul up. I've seen it happen. Not pretty.

Mixing these up is the number one mistake new vapers make in Pakistan. I got a call from a guy in Faisalabad last month who put 50mg salt nic in a sub-ohm tank. He thought he was dying. He wasn't — but he wasn't having a good time either.

The Real Cost Breakdown (In PKR, Not Guesswork)

Okay, money talk. This is where it gets interesting.

MTL disposables and pods — cheapest entry point. An IVG 8K at Rs.3,999 gives you 8000 puffs, 35mg nic salt, 600mAh USB-C rechargeable battery, dual mesh coil, adjustable airflow, digital screen showing puffs and battery. Do the math — that's roughly Rs.0.50 per puff. For most people 8000 puffs lasts about 10-14 days of moderate use.

The IVG Regal 6000 at Rs.3,499 gives 6000 puffs, 500mAh rechargeable, 12ml capacity, comes in both 20mg and 50mg. So around Rs.0.58 per puff.

The IVG Pro Pods system? 10,000+ puffs with 33 flavours and auto-fill pods. If you're serious about MTL long-term, this ends up cheaper per month than anything else.

Sub-ohm is a different beast. Higher upfront cost, but potentially cheaper per ml of juice — if you're a heavy user.

A proper sub-ohm kit needs a mod, a tank, coils, and bottles of freebase liquid. You're looking at Rs.8,000-15,000 upfront for something decent. Coils cost Rs.400-800 and last a week or two. Juice bottles run Rs.1,500-3,000 for 60-100ml.

Honestly? I used to recommend sub-ohm to almost everyone. Now I think differently. What I've found is that 8 out of 10 Pakistani vapers — especially guys switching from cigarettes — do better with MTL. It's cheaper to start, closer to the smoking sensation they already know, and the nicotine actually satisfies them.

Sub-ohm is amazing if you love flavour chasing, cloud production, and don't mind carrying a bigger device. But if you just want to quit cigarettes and get on with your life? MTL wins.

Also — practical thing nobody mentions — sub-ohm devices are absolute battery hogs. Karachi load-shedding hits and your mod's dead by evening. An MTL pod like the OXVA Xlim Pro (Rs.5,099, 1000mAh) or the Vaporesso Luxe Q2 SE (Rs.4,499, 1000mAh) will run two full days easily.

Flavour: The Part Everyone Gets Wrong

People assume sub-ohm tastes "better" because it produces more vapour. That's not really true.

Sub-ohm gives you louder flavour. More intense. Sweeter desserts taste sweeter, fruits taste more vivid. The higher wattage extracts more from the liquid. If you love mango, a sub-ohm setup will make that mango scream at you.

MTL gives you focused flavour. More like sipping espresso vs drinking a milkshake. Tobacco flavours, menthol, cool mints, ice fruits — these actually shine harder on MTL because the lower temperature keeps the subtleties intact. Blast a good tobacco flavour through a sub-ohm coil and you'll burn off half the character.

The 33 flavours on our Pro Pods range — grape ice, blue raspberry, cola lime, that sort of thing — those were designed with MTL in mind. Cold, crisp, hits the throat.

Now here's something I got wrong at first. I used to tell customers that sub-ohm was "more advanced" like it was some kind of graduation. It's not. They're just different tools. A guy in a village in Sindh who wants to quit paan-cigarettes needs a simple MTL device — not a 200W mod he needs to build coils for. And a guy in DHA Lahore who's been vaping for 3 years and wants massive flavour clouds shouldn't be stuck on a tiny pod.

Match the tool to the person. That's it.

One more flavour thing — throat hit. MTL with nic salts gives a smooth, tight throat hit even at 35mg or 50mg. Sub-ohm at 3mg still feels punchier than you'd expect because of the sheer volume of vapour. Both satisfy, just differently.

Which Style Costs Less Per Month?

Rough math for an average vaper in Pakistan:

MTL disposable route: One IVG 8K every 10-12 days = around Rs.10,000-12,000/month.

MTL pod system: Device once (Rs.4,000-5,500), then just juice/pods. Around Rs.5,000-7,000/month after setup.

Sub-ohm: Setup Rs.10,000+ upfront. Then coils and juice running around Rs.6,000-9,000/month.

Pod systems win long-term. Disposables win for convenience. Sub-ohm sits in the middle, honestly, unless you're a very heavy user.

What About Switching Between Styles?

Loads of people ask this. Can you use both?

Yeah, plenty of our regulars do. MTL pod at work — discreet, small, no clouds getting you weird looks in a meeting in Islamabad. Sub-ohm at home in the evening when you want to actually enjoy the flavour and don't care who sees.

The IVG Recharge at Rs.5,499 is a solid MTL option to pair with a bigger setup at home. Multiple colours, rechargeable pod system, easy to slip in your pocket.

FAQ

Is MTL better for quitting cigarettes?

In my experience, yes. The inhale style is identical to smoking, and salt nic at 35mg gives you a hit close to what a cigarette does. Most guys who try to quit with a sub-ohm setup end up going back to smoking because the low-nic freebase juice doesn't satisfy them. Start with MTL. If you want to explore sub-ohm later, do it after you're settled.

Can I use nic salts in a sub-ohm device?

Please don't. At 35mg or 50mg, running that through a sub-ohm coil at high wattage is genuinely dangerous — you'll get way too much nicotine per puff and feel awful. Sub-ohm devices need 3mg or 6mg freebase liquid. If you're confused about which juice fits your device, message us on WhatsApp before ordering. We'd rather answer 100 questions than have you buy the wrong thing.

Do you deliver both types across Pakistan?

Yeah, everything ships nationwide with cash on delivery. Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Multan, Quetta, smaller cities — takes about 4 days. Free returns if something's not right. We don't take payment till you've got the box in your hand.

Which lasts longer — a disposable or a pod system?

Per device, disposables are done when they're done. A pod system's device lasts months or years, and you just replace pods or coils. If you're planning to stick with vaping longer than 2-3 months, pod systems save you serious money. But if you're just testing the waters, grab an IVG 8K first and see if vaping's even for you.

Still stuck between the two? Send me a message with what you're currently smoking or vaping, and I'll tell you honestly what I'd pick if I was in your shoes —
