Why 35mg Nic Salt Became Pakistan's Default (And When to Go Lower)

Nine out of ten orders we ship are 35mg.

I checked the numbers again last week because I honestly didn't believe it the first time. Out of the last 1,247 disposable and salt orders we processed at IVG Pakistan, roughly 91% were 35mg or higher. The rest? Split between 20mg and the odd 50mg request from someone who probably shouldn't be buying 50mg.

So there's a story here. And it's not the one most people tell.

When nic salts first hit Pakistan properly — I'm talking 2020, 2021 — everyone was pushing 50mg because that's what the American brands were doing. Juul was the reference point. Everyone assumed higher = better. I did too, back then. Used to recommend 50mg to almost every switcher who walked in. Got that wrong, honestly.

Because here's what actually happened when guys in Karachi and Lahore started using 50mg pods: they'd get a headrush, cough, put the thing down, and go back to their Gold Leaf. The nicotine hit was too much for people who'd been smoking 8-12 cigarettes a day. 50mg is calibrated for pack-a-day American smokers on a Juul, not the average Pakistani smoker who's puffing through half a pack of Capstan.

Then 35mg showed up. And something clicked.

Why 35mg just works for most people here

The math is boring but useful. A pack of Marlboro delivers about 1-1.5mg of nicotine absorbed per cigarette. Someone smoking 10 a day is absorbing maybe 12-15mg spread over the day. A 35mg nic salt in a decent pod system gives you roughly that — spread across sipping, not slammed in one hit.

50mg overshoots. 20mg often undershoots for a real smoker. 35mg lands.

That's why our IVG 8K ships at 35mg by default — 8000 puffs, dual mesh coil, that little digital screen showing battery and juice level, adjustable airflow if you want a tighter draw. It's Rs.3,999 and it's genuinely the closest thing to a cigarette experience I can hand someone who's switching. Not because 35mg is magic, but because it matches what a Pakistani smoker's body is already used to.

The Regal 6000 gives you the option — 20mg or 50mg, your call, Rs.3,499. And this is where it gets interesting. Guys who've been vaping for 6+ months? A lot of them start dropping down. 50mg becomes too much. 35mg feels heavy. 20mg suddenly makes sense.

Which brings me to the part nobody talks about.

When you should actually go lower (20mg vs 35mg)

Look, 35mg being the default doesn't mean 35mg is right for you forever. It's a starting point. And I'd argue a chunk of our customers should already be on 20mg but haven't made the switch because nobody told them they could.

Here's when 20mg makes more sense:

You've been vaping for 4+ months and you notice you're chain-puffing less. Your body's nicotine tolerance has shifted. The old cigarette craving isn't the same beast anymore. If you're still hitting 35mg out of habit but not really needing that kick, you're just burning through more nicotine than your body wants.

Or — and this one's underrated — you're a light smoker to begin with. If you were doing 3-5 cigarettes a day before switching, 35mg is overkill from day one. Start at 20mg. The OXVA Xlim Pro at Rs.5,099 with a 1000mAh battery is a solid pick for this — you can pair it with a lower-strength salt and actually enjoy flavour without the throat punch.

Or you're one of those people who's using vaping as a step-down plan (which honestly is what I'd recommend anyone with a family history of heart stuff). You start at 35mg, ride it for 3-4 months, drop to 20mg, ride that for another few months, and eventually some people go down to 10mg or quit entirely. I've seen it work more than I expected. Not for everyone — but more than I expected.

The IVG Intense Salts come in 35mg and 55mg (Rs.2,999 for 30ml) so if you're on refillables, you've got options. 55mg exists for a reason — heavy smokers, guys doing 20+ a day — but that's a small group and I'd rather sell them 35mg twice than 55mg once and have them cough their lungs out.

The signals your body sends

You want to know if you're on the wrong strength? Your body tells you. Loudly.

Too high: headaches, dizziness, that weird nauseous feeling after a long session, hiccups (yes, hiccups, this is a real thing), sore throat that won't quit.

Too low: you're vaping constantly, you're irritable between sessions, you keep going back for the cigarette anyway, the vape just doesn't scratch the itch.

35mg for most switchers hits the middle. But pay attention. If after two weeks you're getting headaches, drop to 20mg. If after two weeks you're still buying cigarettes on the side, you might genuinely need 50mg for a bit — or you might just need a better device with better airflow, which is a whole other conversation.

Why the Pakistani market landed here specifically

A few things came together.

First, our smokers aren't American smokers. Different cigarettes, different habits, different tolerance. Capstan, Gold Leaf, Marlboro Red — the nicotine delivery is inconsistent and generally lower per stick than what nic salt strengths were originally calibrated against. 35mg matches better.

Second, disposables took over. When you're buying an 8000-puff device, you want a strength that lasts the whole device without either burning you out or feeling weak by puff 4000. 35mg holds up across that arc.

Third — and this is the boring commercial reality — 35mg became the sweet spot for manufacturers too. Enough kick to satisfy switchers, not so much that first-timers get scared off and return the product. Retailers in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad all started stocking 35mg heavy because return rates were lower. Supply followed demand followed supply. That's just how markets settle.

Last week I had a guy in Faisalabad message us on WhatsApp — been vaping a Regal 6000 at 50mg for three months, kept getting headaches, thought the device was faulty. It wasn't. He was overdosed on nicotine. Switched him to 20mg on the next COD order, problem gone in two days. That's the kind of thing that happens more often than I'd like.

And this is why I keep saying — 35mg is the default, not the destination. If you're new, start there. If you've been at it a while, ask yourself if you still need it.

We ship COD nationwide, 4-day delivery to most cities, free returns if the device is faulty. If you're on the fence about strength, message us before ordering. Genuinely — I'd rather spend 3 minutes helping you pick right than deal with a return.

FAQs

Is 35mg nic salt too strong for a first-time vaper?

Depends on how much you smoke. If you're on 10+ cigarettes a day, 35mg is probably fine. If you're a social smoker doing 2-3 a day, start at 20mg. And if you've never smoked at all — don't vape. Simple as that.

Can I mix 35mg and 20mg to get something in between?

If you're using refillable salts like our Intense Salts, yes, you can blend them and land somewhere around 27-28mg. Some of my long-term customers do this when they're stepping down. For disposables you're stuck with what's in the device.

How long before I should think about dropping from 35mg to 20mg?

No fixed timeline, but most people notice around the 4-6 month mark that 35mg feels heavier than it used to. That's your cue. Try 20mg for a week. If you're satisfied, stay. If not, go back up — no shame in it.

Do higher mg salts damage the coil faster?

Not really. Coil life depends more on sweetener content in the flavour and how hot you're running the device. A dessert flavour at 20mg will kill a coil faster than a menthol at 50mg. So blame the sugar, not the nicotine.

Anyway — if you're still reading this and you're not sure what to order, what strength are you on right now?
